Txirrita

Joxe Manuel Lujambio Retegi, Txirrita, started to sing “bertsos” at the age of 10, and he kept on doing it till his death, at 75, in 1936. He was born in Hernani, died in Alza, and lived for a long period of time in Rentería, at the farmhouse named “Txirrita”, house after which he was named.

Making a living out of masonery, he enjoyed gambling and ciderhouses among others. He spent his life singing, creating one bertso after the other, hoping from ciderhouse to ciderhouse. He didn't know how to write, howewer, he was a brilliant man. With a touch of humour, he would always bring up justice and law into his verses.

His influence in the coming generations is enormous, proportional to his body's size
